When we first started working on the EP there were four of us crammed in a garden shed the size of a confession box. We had one microphone and an iMac, both borrowed from the generous and exquisite eccentric Rupert Bogarde who just so happens to be my old man.
We’d all squeeze in there, for 12 hours at a time, recording makeshift instruments, bird noises and a wine bottle we had tuned to the key of C. It was those shabby recordings that enticed our dear publishers, the small indie label, Creek Records.
Fast forward a year and we made our first grown up studio record with our excellent producers Guy and John in a proper studio with real instruments and a desk and microphones all over the place.
But with our producer Guy on tour with Bob Dylan and six months between releases we got hungry for some studio time towards the end of the summer. So we squashed back into the shed to work on a new track. We had two mics this time which meant we could record a very small drum kit if you played it sitting just out of the studio door. We decided to do the vocals back in Brighton using the studio pictured below.

Gone were the luxuries of succulent instruments, producers and a working kettle, we were back with old fiends, the spatula, the fishing rod and a couple of rolls of gaffa tape made an appearance. Other high grade music equipment (mostly fit for a skip or recently fished out of one) was borrowed from Robert Dylan Thomas’ home studio across town. This is no Abbey Road but there is a certain vibiness you don’t always capture in a classy studio.
We appeared on Juice FM’s Totally Wired show with Matt Barker to talk about all sorts of Buzinuss. If you missed it you can listen again on the link below!
It’s weird hearing your own voice, that is for sure.
